Sept. 20 - Sept. 24

Dear Parents,                                                                              September 20

I hope everyone had a great weekend.

Reading:
This week in reading our story is Letters From Yosemite, pages 116 -127.  Your child will bring their book home tonight to read the story.

Skills in reading: main idea, suffixes, and fact and opinion

Vocabulary words are:  glacier, impressive, naturalist, preserve, slopes, species, and wilderness.

Language-
 We will review the 4 types of sentences: declarative, interrogative, imperative, and exclamatory.
Skills to be worked on are combining sentences with the conjunctions and, but, and or.  We will also look at sentence punctuation.

We are also working on Write Trait which helps with our writing skills.

Social studies:  On Monday the students will be having a test over the 7 continents and 4 oceans.  We will review latitude and start on longitude.  The class will be locating center points using latitude and longitude.  Other skills are map reading and measuring distance.  On Friday, there will be a test on latitude and longitude

Cursive- We will practice writing the letters Ee, Ff, and Gg.  On the days we do not have cursive, the class write in their  journals.

Important note:
1.Tonight, Monday, September 20, your child will bring home an update on the AR reading goal.  Each student needs to have their paper signed and return it on Tuesday, September 21.  Each student should have more than 50% of their goal.
2. Grandparents money is due on Wednesday, September 22.  Grandparents
3. School fund raiser- hope it is going well.  When you are finished, send the order to school.
4. Continue to study multiplication facts.
5. READ, READ, READ to improve reading skills
